Adobe reader installation

Sun May 15, 2011 1:30 pm
Hello everyone.

This is my first post so please go easy on me.
I am running Kubuntu Natty Norwhal 10.04 on an Optiplex GX 260 with 512 ram
I downloaded the .bin file from the Adobe website and tried installing it by entering this code into the Konsole

chmod +x Acroread.bin
./Acroread.bin

It asks me the directory and I just hit enter(default directory is /opt)
It then responds by showing
ERROR: Cannot write to directory "/opt".

so I enter it into another directory.

home/USERNAME/application

It installs successfully but when I open the directory, it shows me that is is empty.

Any suggessions??
BTW I have to have Adobe. It is a special PDF that I am accessing from a remote server and does not work in Okular

always easier to find and install a package specifically made for your distro (especially if you're new to Linux)

you're probably missing the repo that includes it - Canonical Partners

see http://www.liberiangeek.net/2011/04/how ... y-narwhal/ for instructions

Have you tried Okular instead?
