So here's my problem: I just upgraded to KMail 2.1.0 (Archlinux), and the feature I most relied upon, disconnected IMAP, seems to be really really worse. I use it to access a gmail account, whilst keeping copies locally, so that I'm not dependent on the network being up and running. And this does not work in KMail2. I ended up recreating my account from scratch, and downloading all mail from gmail again, but still, every time I change to a different folder, it will connect to the server before letting me read any of the previously downloaded mails. On the settings for said account, I've checked both server side subscriptions (so that I get all the folders and filtering from the server), and disconnected IMAP, to ostensibly keep all the mail on the client, but as I said, this does not work. Also, I noticed that the option to set the size limit above which messages are not downloaded from the server is absent. Any help is appreciated (and thanks in advance!)

dIMAP and IMAP got merged in KMail 2. Can you check in your account settings if "Enable disconnected mode" is checked?

Can you post the [%General] section of $HOME/.config/akonadi/akonadiserverrc?

Try to change that to
ExternalPayload=true 1) akonadictl stop 2) change config 3) akonadictl start Cheers, _

anda_skoa, it seems to have worked! I'll post some more feedback in the meantime, but it is a lot better! Thanks!
Out of curiosity, what does that setting control/change? (in particular, does it correspond to some action in the GUI?) |

This setting controls whether Akonadi can create files for caching content above the confiugred size threshold.
It is actually true by default nowadays, it was off in older versions when the feature was not as well tested yet. Cheers, _

OK, it seems to be working fine now. One question though: I experimented stopping the network, and then starting KMail, and I was able to access my mail folders (previously received mail), both mail subject and content. However, If I selected File-> Work Offline, I could access the email subject list, but if I clicked on any of them, a message appeared telling me that KMail was on offline mode, and providing a link to go to online mode. So what is the purpose of the "offline mode"? I apologize if the discussion is going offtopic, but I was curious, because I thought that in "disconnected IMAP mode", work offline implied giving access to the previously stored email. I mean, it doesn't make much sense to store the mail locally, but to make it accessible only when online...

Hello -- I'm using KMail on Kubuntu Natty but don't seem to find this merger. I am asked to select between IMAP and dIMAP at the time of account creation. If there is a setting like this it would be best -- Thunderbird already has this. However please also see my other posting on this forum on age/size limit for syncing. Thanks! |

kmail 2 has been released (with the rest of kdepim 4.6.0) few days ago, so it is not possible that your distribution (released few months ago) has it. You most probably have kmail 4.4.something.

@anda_skoa: I have a problem too
I configured it to use my gmail account. It fetched a lot of mails, but then stopped. And now it's not receiving any more mails. The latest mail in the inbox is from march 2011. Any ideas? I didn't have any previous configurations as I deleted them all. |

I have kmail 2 per kubuntu 11.10 (using kde 4.7.2, so kmail 4.7.2).I configured kmail from scratch with an imap account (gmail). Disconnect is enabled but message bodies are not available offline. Also, not being indexed by strigi. I just get 'cannot fetch item in offline mode'. <frustration offload> What's going on?

How long have you been using kmail2? Did you start with Ubuntu oneiric pre-release?
I have my own basic problems with kmail2, but before I ask about it, I would like to find out what experience of others. Best wishes with you advanced use of kmail2! OldAl |

Tim, I see that all other posts in this thread are dated June, so few people, except wanderers like I, are likely to look at this thread. What about starting a new thread? Regards, OldAl (from Canberra) |
