Hi everybody,
so this is my gazillioneth thread about Akonadi/Kmail. Sorry for being a pest, but I am an innocent victim of rampant software. I've been having problems with Kmail not opening folders at all - it would just never finish loading. (See here.) So I thought, what if my database is the problem? I had this thought after I, quite randomly, read through a thread on some openSUSE mailing list where one of the maintainers defended his decision to include Sqlite as the default backend for Akonadi in 4.7 and not MySQL. (And after I had checked every other component.) Me being a total noob at this, I first tried to switch to MySQL through the Akonadi server settings dialog. I realized this might be a lead when, well, for the first time I was able to mark those folders as read. They still would not load, but at least they were marked read. Sqlite had not done that for me. It did not react to anything at all. However, the folders still would not load, so next I thought of trying PostgreSQL. I still have not quite figured out if I did everything right, but I got Akonadi running with no error reports when I replaced ~/.local/share/akonadi/akonadiserverrc with the following:
Which akonadi then turned into this:
(I found some information on this online, I don't actually know what I'm doing here.) So Akonadi is running - but Kmail crashes on me. Or rather, it quits. I get the following output when I run it from a terminal:
The message displayed, which also popped up in kmail before it quit itself, translates into: "There was a serious error in Kmail. The program will be terminated. The error message says: timeout while receiving/maintaining (?) the lock (?)." I have tried to start with a new akonadi database (which by the way was also necessary for PostgreSQL to work), and I have renamed all maildir- and nepomuk-email-feeder-related configs in ~/.config and ~/.kde4/share/config/, but Kmail's behavior hasn't changed at all. (This is with 4.7 from openSUSE 11.4 Release repos btw.) Now my question is: Is this actually database-related? The Kmail report seems to rather indicate something is wrong with Nepomuk/virtuoso. In fact, when I just booted, I got notified that virtuoso wasn't found. But, Nepomuk is running normally and is using virtuoso, which actually is installed. Any help, anybody? Thanks a lot! I would really just finally like to get Akonadi and Kmail to just work. EDIT: How interesting. I just noticed that even as that error message pops up telling me that Kmail is quitting, Kmail is kind of responsive as long as I ignore that message. I was able to expand my Local Folders and mark Folders as read. Still, folders aren't loading their contents. And well, I still have that message telling me that Kmail needs to terminate itself. Any help will be appreciated! EDIT2: Ok, correction: There is something wrong with strigi, too, all of a sudden, and idk what it is. But it might be related. Anyways, semantic search does not work. |

What can I say? The second time I rebooted after this crash first appeared, Kmail magically worked again. I can even access my folders, even though they take too much time to load for my liking. THANK YOU LORD.
