Another KMail problem

Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:26 pm
I have a Gentoo system, KDE 4.7.3. My email accounts are all IMAP, but important mails I copy to local folders, with several subfolders. This worked even with akonadi, but recently the system developed this behavior:
The local mail folder is still displayed with all subfolders, but all are empty. KMail tries endlessly to sync the folder, no progress.

The mails are located in

Code: Select all
$HOME/Mail/.topic1.directory/.subtopic.directory/subsubtopic/cur

the individual files in the subsubtopic/cur folder are smtp mail, ASCII text. Note all subdirectories but the last are hidden.

How can I get this working again?

Beside of this, I cannot delete mails from IMAP accounts anymore. The delete operation is confirmed, the mail still stays there.

I know this is similar to the problem of many users. Still can't find a clear instruction to resolve the mess.

Regards
Chris

I could solve my problem, maybe not the most elegant way. As I told, all subfolders of ~/Mail displayed in KMail were empty. However, when I configured the subfolders as local Maildir folders in akonadiconsole separately, the content was visible again. In KMail I copied (not moved) all the subfolders into new subfolders in "Local Folders" which is assigned to ~/.local/share/local-mail. This worked so far, my next action was to do a backup of ~/.local/share/local-mail. Maybe this helps somebody with similar problems.

Chris

The actual content is in ~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory !!! Include this in your backup.
