I am new to Tellico running it within Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I have been building a number of video collections and in doing so created, in each, 2 new custom fields, added the fields as columns and entered data.
On closing the collection and then re-opening, either (a) the custom fields are no longer listed in the fields selection or (b) the custom fields are in the fields list but have to be selected again to become a column which is frustrating. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? I have also noticed that if I export data as a GCstar Data File and then import it into another collection, again the custom fields disappear. Any help appreciated. |

The view settings are remembered on a collection-type basis, rather than a file basis, so if you have two different video collection files and switch between them, and they have different fields, then you'll lose the view settings in between. I hope I'm understanding your question correctly. You're not actually losing data, right? It's just getting hidden? Yeah, custom fields aren't supported in the GCstar export. I haven't taken the time to figure out how GCstar does custom fields yet... |

Many thanks Robby. That answer explains all. I will have to ensure that I have the same fields (which I do have) but in the same column order. Is that right?

If your fields have the same name, then they should be visible, but if you have them in a different order in two different collections, then you'll lose the ordering. I did add custom field support for GCstar files. If you want to download the gcstar2tellico.xsl file from the current repository, grab it from here: http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=tellico.git& ... ellico.xsl Then replace the copy that is installed with Tellico with this new one, then you can test it out. Or wait for the next release. |
