Duplicate tracking in tellico

Sat Mar 25, 2017 2:17 pm
Hi!

I plan to use Tellico for a small school library. This software seems very efficient, customizable, ant meets nearly all our needs (congratulations to the team for the good work!)
Though, there is one thing important for us in book managing: we do want to detect multiple copies of the same book we have, while referencing them.
If we find a duplicate, we will not add a new entry, but change a custom field: "number of copies".

The only way I found in tellico to search for duplicate before trying to add a new entry without loosing time, is to have the "title" field with autocompletion, and check if some propositions match the reference we are about to add.

I found that there is a duplicate tracking function dedidated to bibliography collections, but I wasn't able to use it. Can anyone confirm me if this function will help me, and/or point to any documentation about this function?

Otherway, the idea I had (feature request), is the possibility to add a "duplicate" property for fields, with possible values like "warning" and "error". This field could works with a "duplicate_find_exp" field, wich would have for value the regular expression for finding a duplicate. With this to options, Tellico could warn us or give an error message before adding a duplicate entry to the book database.

Thanks in advance for your help and your answers
