Tellico help?

Sat Mar 06, 2010 2:26 am
I cannot find anywhere else to ask this so... here goes.

Tellico has an entry so that you can either scan in or type ISBN numbers for books and then have the information updated automatically from that. Is there no way to do the same thing for DVDs using the barcodes?

I am used to using Collectoz software for Windoze. There was an entry window where you scanned (or typed) the ISBN numbers or barcodes (or the titles if you'd rather do it that way) and then after you typed in all of the entries you wanted looked up, the software would search the sources for the relative information. Is there no way to get Tellico to act like this?

If no, is there any Linux software (prefer GNOME, but I'm obviously OK with KDE) that can do this?

Thanks...

Tellico can do it, as long as the data source you're searching supports UPC search. Amazon does, so I'd give that a shot.

Just make sure to change the search field from ISBN to UPC/EAN and then scan the barcode.

I had a field that I added called Barcode.. I changed that to UPC/EAN and tried to update from All Sources (which included Amazon.com) but it didn't find anything.... Any trick to it that I may be missing? Thanks.

No, that actually won't work. Maybe I should figure out a way to look for a UPC field for the update.

Right now, it only uses the UPC value for the initial search. Open the Internet Search dialog, and change the source to Amazon. Then change the search field to UPC/EAN there and search for your UPC. Amazon will find it, but I don't think the UPC value itself will be a part of the entry. That's a shortcoming.

Oh... wow.. Ok. I didn't know i could do that. That worked great. You're right that the UPC code isn't stored in the entry. That would make it easier for UPC updates. I couldn't get the webcam in my laptop to read the UPC, but that's no problem. I probably just wasn't doing that right. I appreciate your help!

My problem is that I'm trying to search for blu-ray discs from Amazon Canada. I have the Amazon account all set up in Tellico, used it for books (works great), but searching UPC codes for the movies always give me the response "is not a valid value for ItemId". I have it set for UPC/EAN searches, and if I do the search directly from Amazon.ca the UPC number works. Any suggestions?

Update: Just realized while doing a search for the title "The Man with the Golden Gun" that searches in "My Videos" is actually only searching out music CDs. For whatever reason it is doing a Music search instead. Anyone know a way for me to manually fix this?

According to http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC ... ookup.html, UPC doesn't work for CA. I may need to change one of the search parameters for that to work for CA.

I see that, too. I'm not sure why that's the case for CA but not US.The SearchIndex is Video as it should be, but it appears to have bad results. I'll investigate.

Amazon CA just doesn't provide UPC searches. So I changed Tellico to not offer it. A keyword search may sometimes work for the UPC value.

Looks like Japan may have a similar problem. Amazon provides search indices called Video and DVD both. Video is supposed to included DVD, but it doesn't appear to. So I switched Canada and Japan to use the DVD search exclusively, which should provide DVD results at the cost maybe of not having any VHS results...
