Locking Filter Results

Thu Aug 04, 2011 3:57 pm
Because FAT file systems do not accept ":" in directory names in my URL entry fields, I've had to change a lot of directories with this character that were completely acceptable in Linux filesystems. For example a directory may have been named /home/Rock: Jeff Beck/. Why do I need to do this? Because I am going to try and run a copy of my Tellico database under Windows XP on my laptop. Very easy to change the URL entries (with ":" changed to "-") within the Tellico.tc xml file for use on the XP system. But also needed to change the actual filesystem directory names in the database of .mp3, .flv, etc files being copied to the XP system. Which seemed to be easiest to do inside Tellico by doing a Filter Search on my URL entries with ":%20" as the filter test (just ":" would have throw up all the common frontend file:/// parts of the URL path-name - i.e. every URL in the database).

The problem is that while the filter pulled out all the offending URL entries, as soon as I had corrected one entry and saved, the filter returned to its default "blank" entry and all the other filter "finds" were lost. So for every entry that I needed to change I had to repeat the filter - not that difficult - but the whole process would have been quicker if the original filter results or the filter conditions remained "locked" - so that I could just go down the list and correct each one without having to constantly repeat the filter search.

Have I overlooked an option here?

I may be misunderstanding what you're doing exactly, but perhaps you could add a filter name and "Save Filter" (which adds the filter to the filter tab, but doesn't actually 'save' anything). Then you can edit each entry in the list in the filter tab. As you edit, they should disappear since the saved filter is re-evaluated each time. Does that help?
