Report generation for subsets of a collection?

Hi! New to Tellico, and so far very much liking what I'm finding. Starting to organize a book collection, and I'm curious about report generation. Specifically, is is possible to generate a report for a specific genre or other "subset" of a collection? Or should I be making separate collections for each category of book I might want a separate report about? If the latter, is is possible to move entries from one collection to another?

Cheers, and thanks for an awesome piece of software?

I haven't figured out how to properly write an XSL report sheet, but I did find a workaround for this situation in case anyone is interested:

I have things categorized by Genre in my database - I can use the Genre grouping to list all items in a particular group, select them, export selected to xml, then import the xml file into a new tellico database. Presto, I can now do an image report of just that one Genre. (have to make sure to select the "export the images" box when exporting to xml)

I think the workaround you described is the only way at the moment. Maybe I should add a report option to just use the selected entries.

There's no easy way to move entries from one collection file to another, without just exporting and importing. I wouldn't separate files by genre, that might give you headaches later.

Tellico can also just open the xml file directly.

Starseeker,

I too very much would like multiple level for reporting, for coins. I can use filters to select just the coins in the country, denomination and type I want. However that leads to a lot of filters for just the US and just the 20th century.

Multiple levels would make reports more understandable because the info. for coins of a specific country, denomination and type can be entered for a group of entries. This mignt work for antologies for book collectors too.
