Virtuoso backend goes crazy in 4.6 beta1

Hey guys,

I upgraded to 4.6 beta1. Since then, virtuoso-t process is according to top, eating somewhere between 150-500 of my cpu time. The fan is going crazy. I thought originally this was because strigi was again reindexing stuff, however strigi is now idle and the virtuoso will not stop eating all my cpu.

Do you have any ideas what can be wrong? What values to adjust?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Ok, I have tried to stop almost everything other than nepomuk and that did not do much of a help. Not even switching off akonadi and strigi.

I should add this is OpenSuse 11.3 with KDE from http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.3/.

I only see this behavior occasionally. I think it's due to the akonadi feeders that are indexing: usually it should index only when the system is idle, so it seems that detection is somehow broken.

It happens to me after every boot, unfortunately. Sometimes it takes longer before it kicks in. Killing virtuoso helps, at least for a while. I am not sure if I don't break stuff with it though...

Is there a way to disable these feeders? In ~/.kde4/share/config all I can find are 3 akonadi_nepomuk_*_feederrc files.

Hmm, I always forget about ~/.config... Most of the akonadi settings is probably located there.

Oh, btw, it might be related. Nepomuk search is not working for me whatsoever. It wasn't much functional with 4.5. After the upgrade, it gave me some results. However no matter what I search for now, I never get any search results, be it in Dolphin, Kmail or through Krunner.

Any ideas about this?

You can use akonadiconsole (be warned that it's a developer tool and might break stuff) to disable the various feeders.

I'm having same problem. According to akonadi, everything seems to be quiet (Waiting, Prepared...) but virtuoso-t process is out of control. What should I look for on akonadi console??

It is a bug deeply rooted in the codebase. Some investigation revealed that there is a command sent to the database that time outs and on the long run causes virtuoso-t to stay on 100% CPU even if nothing is using it.
Currently the PIM develoeprs are, AFAICT, waiting for input from the Nepomuk people.

Thanks einar, it is really driving me nuts ;) Every time I log in I just do killall virtuoso-t, otherwise my fan would kill me.

I suppose this won't be fixed for 4.6 considering that kdepim is not joining the rest of the SC on the release date. Am I right?

I'm suffering of this bug too. It mostly related to Kmail usage. For example, virtuoso gets crazy when I try to set "all email read" in a folder with dozens or hundreds of new emails.

Hope they can find a solution soon, otherwise I might have to fully disable nepomuk (which is sad because I happen to like the functionallity :( )

Disable the contacts and nepomuksearch runners in KRunner (Alt-F2 > Wrench icon > untick "Nepomuk Search" and "Contacts"), and the problem should go away.

Sadly I often use the contacts thing on krunner :(

Do I have to understand then that there is a bug in nepomuk regarding contacts?

Yes there is a bug there (actually in Nepomuk Search) coupled with a virtuoso-t bug.
