Help with some Formatting Questions

Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:23 am
Greetings all,

I am checking out Calligra and I was trying to perform some basic operations which I could not discover how to do in Calligra Words.

First, I inserted a table into a text document. Once I did this, I was unable to move the table within the document or change the thickness of the cell walls.

So, under the "Text Editing" tab, I went down to "Insert" and created a table with the create table button. I am able to add/remove columns/rows, but not perform the operations outlined above.

Also, I wanted to create a Table of Contents. I inserted "Index Reference" but the TOC did not have any entries in it.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi

From 2.5 onwards there is a border painter next to the insert/remove row/column buttons

As far as inserting an index and have that shw up in the ToC - you can't - at least not yet. I suspect it will be available from version 2.7 though. For ToC you can only have headings and paragraphs with specific paragraph styles show up

In fact I was not aware that inserting an index was possible at all in the ui - but indeed - thanks for bringing that to my atttention. It will eventually be moved to references I think

Thanks! I didn't notice the paintbrush. But it seems I have to select each side of each cell to change the border, is that true? Also, is there a way to move the inserted table within the document?

BTW, my subjective impression is that Calligra is better at importing MS documents than OOO/LO. They look much better in Calligra, though I wonder if that is due to better KDE integration.

Ah yes, you cannot move tables about. And I have no plan to implement that anytime soon. Simply because I can't imagine how to do it

about the border painter: You select a style, then click on each of the borders you want to apply it to. Yo cannot apply it to more than one border at a time. and yes it would be nice to be able to. We need however to figure out a userinterface for that.

Regarding MS import. Yes we appear to be better than LO/OO and no it's not because of KDE integration. It's because of hard work on our side :)

Regarding moving the tables. OK. But I am able to cut/copy/paste inserted tables. So that is my work-around.

And I really like the quality of the MSOffice import; GREAT job there to you and your team!
