does Words/Author have support for hyphenation? If so, how can I enable it? This is especially needed when using justification in a multi column document.

you mean like how to insert soft hyphens?

This would clearly help, but also automatic hyphenation. E.g. comparing the output of latex (as one extreme) and of Words, latex inserts much more hyphens. Actually, in my example text, Words didn't insert any hyphen.
