Opening my dissertation in LibreOffice crashes their software. I was getting desperate because I could only edit this large document on Windows using Office. However, Calligra Words properly opens the document. I haven't tried to do anything with it yet, but, this is huge progress and one feature that shoots Calligra right to the top of my list. I saw someone else posting about unfixed bugs in Words. I suggest you keep track of which distros are generating problems. I had no end of problems in the most recent OpenSuse, with much crashing & software not working properly. However, I wiped my machine & went to the latest Linux Mint, and have had no crashes and much improved software performance. It might be an issue of package maintainer, which would be impossible to diagnose from your end if you didn't run a particular distro.
