Is it possible for you to try downgrading XCB or try some form of FreeBSD Live CD to see if it works properly there?

OK. what I will do is to install on a new hard disk with freebsd/amd64 8.2 release with old xcb-util, and I will let you know. I have installed straight from the DVD:
basically except the kernel, I installed xorg, kde4, bash, and xdm all with default configuration. Unfortunately knights-kde4 was not included in the list. I am downloading it know, it was version knights-2.2.0 which required qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.7.1.tar.gz and other stuff. All other KGAMES (KBlackBox, KSquare, KFourInLine) were working fine. Most likely it would be run fine. Now, what I need to do for tomorrow? Upgrading the ports (which include xcb)? or upgrade only KDE4? or install knight-2.2.0? |

Knight-2.2 worked fine

At this stage, I would recommend trying to upgrade KDE itself first - ideally to KDE 4.8.1 is available.

I just upgraded freebsd ports, and the latest available in freebsd port was KDE4.7.4_1. It means upgrade to KDE4.8 required manual install which takes time. How do you think if we try to upgrade to KDE4.7.4_1 first (hopefully some requirements in KDE4.8 would be installed as well, so it reduce manual installation time to upgrade KDE4.8 )?

KDE 4.7.1 should be a good starting point if KDE 4.8 requires too much work, as they should be fairly similar.

Upgrading from 4.4.5.5 to 4.7.4.1 still in process (in the new hard disk). Since I noticed a lot of new packages version, I also upgraded other system with KDE 4.7.4 (which had KDE games display problem) and after it finished upgrading all, the system has KDE 4.7.4.1, I tried knight and it worked .
So I just assume the case is closed, and thx for help |
