Can you please explain what exactly the bug is? Freezing at loading in a game is likely a bug with that game, so your queries should be directed to Steam if the game was sourced from there.

You could try however to disable Desktop Effects, as some graphics drivers do not handle multiple applications using the GPU at the same time properly.

1-kubuntu 13.10 x64 kde 4.12
2-suse kde 4.12

On kde 4.11 is ok.

Linux mint 16 mate- no problems.

Is it -- except for running kwin/plasma or some other desktop environment -- the exact same system you're trying this on?

Also try what Ben said -- disable desktop effects.
