kmid file type choice

Sun Dec 27, 2009 5:22 pm
Hallo,

I have a midi file that doesn't play well with aplaymidi and timidity. Many instruments missing. When I play in kmidi, everything is fine (using timidity as a backend).

I thought that the problem is file being mt-32 as I saw that file type is selected. But when I change the file type to general midi, still the midi file plays well.

Now I wonder how to check what's wrong with the midi file and what does the file type selection in kmid is.

Any advice appreciated!

Actually now I found out settings changes take place while playing, I see the difference between GM and MT-32 as an instrument remap. amidiplay seems to play as if file is GM and now I'm listening for many too times it seems the correct behavior :)

I wonder though why does the option default to mt-32.

Hi,

Sorry for answering your post so late, but I've just found it now. I guess you are talking about the old KMid for KDE3, which has mt-32 files support in addition of General MIDI ones. In the new and rewritten KMid version for KDE4 the mt-32 support has been dropped, because it is an old and rarely used instrument mapping. But seems that your test file is GM anyway, so it shouldn't matter. I don't have any song for mt-32, either.

Regards,
Pedro
