Graphing Functions in KIG

Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:33 am
Howdy All,

So I have been playing around with the education tool "Kig" and I am very impressed with it's geometry abilities. I've looked around at different examples online and have seen in several places functions graphed in Kig, how do I get it to graph a function? Is it a built in command or is some sort of macro needed? I dug around in the docs and searched google a bit but could not find anything...

Regards,
~Jeff

Given Kig it is mostly a geometry program, the preferred way is to use Python scripting + a locus.
Basically, what you have to do is the following:
  • create a (horizontal, even if it does not matter much) line
  • create a point on the line
  • create a Python script, passing the point as argument; the script should create a new Point with the same X coordinate of the point argument and as Y coordinate the result of your f(x).
  • create a locus for the new point (the result of the Python script) as dependent point and the point on the line as constrained point
once done, you can even hide the line and the points.

I have just dowloaded and opened KDE on Windows 7. So far, all seems to be well enough. However, Kig does not seem to have a way of opening a Python script. (No obvious button--no 'Objects->Other->Python Script) Am I missing something? I used the installer that was suggested on the web site.
