I'm an engineering student, and as such, I'm quite interested in Cantor. The one thing that's kept me from using it so far is that I'm reluctant to learn a less mainstream CAS such as Maxima, when I will probably end up having to use Maple on the university computers. (I have nothing against Maxima or others - it's just a practical matter of not wanting to learn multiple systems.) There is an Open Source CAS that has syntax-compatibility modes for Maple and other systems, called XCAS (based on a library called GIAC).
I was wondering if anyone else in the community is interested in it, and if there is any interest in adding support for it to Cantor. I don't currently have the skill (or time to gain said skill) to do the coding myself, but would be happy to assist in other ways if someone else decides to work on it. Anyhow, I'm just throwing this out there, because it would seem no one else has been discussing it; this isn't a feature request - I just wanted to see if anyone else is in the same situation as I am. I'll probably fire an e-mail off to the author of the app to ask some questions, and link him here. The SourceForge page is here, and there is another website for it, here.

This sounds like a nice addition to Cantor (especially the Maple compatibillity sounds interesting).
At the moment I have other plans higher up on my TODO than yet another backend (and my time is limited), but I'd love to mentor someone through the creation of this backend. So if there's anyone interested in getting into Cantor-development: heres your opportunity!
