kremotecontrol doesn't start automatically on my KDE 4.5 system.
So the big question is: why doesn't it start and what do I have to change? |

did it ever automatically start?
how are you attempting to autostart it? did you try the systemsettings -> startup and shutdown -> autostart module? |

No.
I don't know. I thought it will start by its own.
No, because I don't know what to do there. There is no daemon and I don't know the name of any executable of kremotecontrol. Till now I started it with systemsettings -> input devices -> remotes |

Ok - I don't have any remotes so I'm guessing - it appears to me that you want to have the Daemon (not a program) started automatically
systemsettings -> startup and shutdown -> Service Manager -> startup services -> K remote control daemon - should be checked and then when highlighted click "start" button (on bottom) and then "save" |

I think it's a kind of daemon. Like you can read on the Homepage there is an "systemtray applet named IRKick".
And sadly there is no startup service of kremotecontrol in the systemsettings. EDIT: I found out that the systemtray applet is not called IRKick but krcdnotifieritem. So I added this app to the autostart and now it works for me. However ... tanks for the help. |

there is for me http://yfrog.com/9fkrmcj do you have the kremotecontrol package installed? in my distro there's a lirc-kmp-desktop rpm kernel module |

Mh... no I don't have this. I'm using openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 with KDE Factory. kremotecontrol 4.5-139.1 is installed. LIRC and its kernel modules is also installed and works fine. The only problem is that there is no startup service listed. |

I'm running 4.6svn (the unstable repo), maybe that's why it shows? But it won't start for me (error= unable to start server krcd).
sorry, maybe someone else can help or you can try IRC: #kde-utils on Freenode |

krcd? I have a service that makes the same error-message if I want to start it. But it was strange translated.
I'm using a german version and there it's called "Fernsteuerungsdienst für KDE" and this means something like "remote control service for kde" Because I never heard of krcd I thought it's something about VNC. So it's seems to be a bug. It must be krcdnotifieritem not only krcd, doesn't it? |

maybe it's how openSuse does it - look in yast -> system -> system services (runlevel) -> lirc -> enable -> ok
