CSV import

Fri Mar 30, 2012 1:44 pm
My CSV file is formatted as follows:

Code: Select all
"Amount","Payee","Date"
-$7.41,"Burger King",2011-02-01
-$38.52,"Friendly's",2011-02-03
-$6.46,"Burger King",2011-02-04
-$12.70,"Domino's",2011-02-05
-$32.48,"Friendly's",2011-02-07
-$4.20,"Burger King",2011-02-08
-$4.20,"Burger King",2011-02-09
-$5.24,"Burger King",2011-02-09
-$8.35,"Burger King",2011-02-10

I'm trying to import it into Skrooge using the default settings, but it is failing. How can I get this data imported? Should I format it differently?

Hi,

Skrooge is not able to import this kind of file because the amount is not a numerical value.
To be able to import it in Skrooge, you have to:
1-Remove all $ in your csv file.
2-Import it in Skrooge by using default settings.

I did a modification in Skrooge to be able to import this kind of file without removing $ in amounts.

To get that functionality, what should I do? Is it available in a alpha / beta release or should I grab it from a versioning system?

Sorry, I'm new to the whole Linux environment, so I'm not sure what is customary for small fixes.

For the moment, the correction is only in git, so this is not easy for you to get it. Anyway, here is the documentation to do it: http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Skrooge

My advice is to remove $ from your csv file to be able to import it with default settings.

Here's what it looks like now:

Code: Select all
"Amount","Payee","Date"
7.41,"Burger King",2011-02-01
38.52,"Friendly's",2011-02-03
6.46,"Burger King",2011-02-04
12.70,"Domino's",2011-02-05
32.48,"Friendly's",2011-02-07
4.20,"Burger King",2011-02-08
4.20,"Burger King",2011-02-09
5.24,"Burger King",2011-02-09

I'm still getting the same error. Any other suggestions of what I can do?

Same error message comes up every time:

Code: Select all
[ERR-5]: Import of file named '/home/koviko/docs/all-food-expenses.csv' failed

On the error panel, if you click on "History", you should have more information.

Could you give me this history of errors?

After pressing "History", this is the output that I get:

Code: Select all
[ERR-5]: Import of file named '/home/koviko/docs/all-food-expenses.csv' failed
[ERR-1]: This import mode is not yet implemented

This is strange, your version of Skrooge doesn't have csv import plugin.

What is your distribution?
What is your version of Skrooge?

Could you try the last version from my ppa?

Here is the link to know how to install it:
