Transfer icon question

Fri Apr 06, 2012 3:20 am
I'm using Skrooge 1.2.0. Recently, I've noticed that for "transfer" mode transactions sometimes the transfer icon has a red dash/hyphen/minus/emdash superimposed. Nothing seems to be wrong with the transaction, and I don't notice any problems with transfers whether or not this overlay is present, but I am wondering what it means.

Normally, when mode is "Transfer," the icon appears as two oppositely pointing cyan arrows with a small banknote. So when I noticed the red overlay, I was a little concerned, since red usually indicates something is wrong. In this case, I don't find anything wrong, and the transfer seems to work.

Sorry if this has been answered before, I haven't managed to find a combination of keywords for searching that yields an answer.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,

The "Transfer" icon is overlayed with a red minus icon when both operations don't have the same amounts. This is strange for a transfert ;-)

The amounts appear the same, with the exception that the "from" account is negative and the "to" account is positive.

I tried modifying the amounts, and I don't find any change. E.g., if I change $105.00 to $104.00, the amount in the "to" account changes right along with the "from" account, but the red minus remains.

There are no ill effects, both accounts reconcile fine after checking the transactions. The red minus remains after reconciliation, too.

With more details:
The "negative" overlay means that the operation is in a group not considered as a transfer.
To be considered as a transfer, an operation (op1) must have an other operation (op2) in the group with:
-Same unit (op2.unit=op1.unit)
-Opposite Amount (op2.amount=op1.amount)
-Account of op2 not with type "Loan"

I hope this will help you.

Yes, that's it.

In every case, the "to" account is my mortgage or home equity loan. I think I can safely apply what my doctor calls "benign neglect" to the warnings on these particular transactions.

Thanks,

Rob
