Hi,
I just imported my kmymoney file in Skrooge and started using it. I've some suggestions to make: 1) All the account (except Wallet type) require the Bank name field to be filled, the Wallet account imported from KmyMoney is created with the bank name KMYMONEY, the Assets and Loan account too are created with this bank name. At this time I can't remove the bank name from the Wallet account (only if I create a new one it will be without bank name) and from the Assets and Loan accounts. This means that the Bank KMYMONEY will show in the Dashboard in the Banks summary. I think that you should make the bank name field optional for Loan accounts and not request it for Assets account, when importing no name bank should be assigned to them if not present in the original file. 2) When selecting an operation the right tab (Standard, Split, Transfer or Shares) should be automatically selected, I made many mistake by selecting the Standard tab when modifying a Transfer operation. 3) The 'Comment' field in operation is too small, at least in Standard and Transfer it could be make much larger 4) There should be a column in the operation view to show the 'To account:" field for the Transfer operation (or maybe write this information in the column 'Mode', now it only appear as a tooltip). BTW when you choose to order the view by 'Mode' column the order isn't correct, Transfer and non Transfer operation are mixed. 5) The 'advice' plugin in the Dashboard suggest me to assign a payee and a category to every Transfer operation, in KmyMoney for the Transfer operation isn't requested to insert the Payee or the Category, usually when you transfer money from an account to another the payee is yourself and the category cannot be an Expense or an Income, I created a new category called Transfer but this only complicate everything. I think that Transfer operation should be treated differently from the others as they don't change the total balance and don't add to Expense or to Income, they simply transfer money from an account to another. 6) I found that the management of the shares isn't very solid, when I update the value of a share skrooge change the value of the operation that bought that shares. If I bought 100 ABC shares at 1€ each in 01/01/2006 for a total of 100€ and now I update the value to 1,5€ skrooge will change the operation in 01/01/2006 and put a value of 150€! Usually this operation is a transfer operation, I transfer money from an account to the investment account, so when I change the value of the shares the two operation differ in value (1. subtract 100€ from the Bank account, 2. add 150€ to the Investment account), kmymoney do this right by not changing the operations but by keeping a different table with the update values. Skrooge is very good, keep up with the excellent work! |

Hi,
In the data model of Skrooge, the "bank" is not an attribute but the parent object of the "account". This parent is mandatory and we want to continue like this for many reasons. When a "Wallet" account is created from Skrooge gui, the account is created with a bank named '' (empty string). I will do the same for imports.
This is already the case, when a transfer is selected the editor switches automatically on the right tab. If it's not the case for you, please give me more details.
I will see if I can do something but without breaking the compatibility with small screens.
In fact, transfers are 2 operations grouped. I will see if I can do something but I am afraid for performances.
You are right. I will do it. This is easy.
I don't understand the issue. This is the case in Skrooge. The operation in € in your account doesn't change. The operation (linked to the previous one) in ABC in your investment account will change when price of ABC changes.
Thank you for using Skrooge. |

Ok, can you allow the creation, for some types of account (Loan, Assets) with a bank named '(empty string)' if you leave blank the Bank name field? After that if you change the 'Banks' plugin in the Dashboard to only show banks with names different from '(empty string)' that will be ok. I simply want only real bank accounts to be listed under 'Banks'. I've some assets (a car, the house, etc..) and some loans (from and to parents, friends, not a real loan from a bank) and now they are listed under Banks.
I tried to make a mass edit by selecting all operation without a category and assigning one to them but after that all the accounts balance was wrong, maybe if you mix Transfer and Standard operation they all are changed to Standard?
Thanks!
ok!
But the Transfer become unbalanced and it show the +/- symbol on the two arrows icon. Btw, I noted another problem when importing a split transfer from kmymoney, If I take 2000€ from BankA and put 1000€ to Cash and 1000€ to "Loan to X" Skrooge will make an unbalanced Transfer from BankA (-2000€) to Cash (+1000€) and a standard operation for Loan to X (+1000€). Another problem: some Transfers imported from Kmymoney are shown as unbalanced (+/- symbol) but they have the same amount in the two grouped operation (one with + sign and the other with - sign). If I try to modify the grouper operation (by changing the amount) the +/- symbol remain... P.S. Maybe I found why: the transfer is from a Current account to a Loan account. If I change the Loan account to a Current account the +/- symbol in the operation disappear... P.P.S. I changed all Loan accounts to Other accounts and now the +/- symbol disappeared and the Transfers to and from this accounts now don't show in the 5 main categories of expenditure, so it's ok. |

In mass edit, the "Standard" page is selected. This is normal because you can have a mix of type of operations.
In fact, this is already done. You should have 2 advices for categories (one for transfers, one for non transfers) and idem for payees.
This is normal, because a transfer to a "Loan" account must be considered as a payment. Having "unbalanced" transfer is not an issue, this is a feature. |
