I'm not sure where to even look for info on this... nothing really jumping out at me in the Docs.

Basically, when I download transaction data from my bank in a .qfx file, it has entries like this:

PURCHASE WITH PIN WALGREENS US$ -38.09

About half of which is useless to me inside Skrooge, or any other money program. I know its a purchase (hence the negative dollar value), I don't care if it was with a pin or without, and its a fixed-size field so any other potentially useful info gets squeezed out by the worthless **** at the beginning. Similarly, I don't really care if a transaction is for a KFC down the road, or in another state when I'm traveling - I don't need the address or chain # added on there.

What I want is something like:

Walgreens US$ -38.09

I went in and edited the Payees list accordingly, thinking Skrooge would be 'smart' enough so that any future entries that came in as the first, would get remapped to the second. Obviously not...

Any suggestions on how to do this, short of having to do an intermediate data-munging step of my own on the import file? I'd also like to auto-map any transactions @ 'Safeway' to Food > Groceries for example, without having to do so by hand.

At this point, I have to do so much editing of each and every transaction downloaded I might as well be using a spreadsheet, because Skrooge isn't doing much for me - at least not what I want it to - which is to save me from having to diddle around editing each and every purchase transaction I make.

Hi,

In the page "Search & process", you can define some rules to automatically set the right category.
In Skrooge 1.5.0, regular expressions are supported.
You should be able to do what you want.
