A while ago, I wrote that I had an idea for Skrooge that I would suggest real soon now . . . and after much procrastination, here it is:

I think it would be nice to be able to group items on a page by any column, not just the ones that are shown -- i.e. group by hidden column.

Let me give an example of a use case:

When I'm looking at the "Accounts" page, I group my accounts by "type". So all the credit card accounts are together, the savings accounts, loans, etc. Since I like to hide the columns I don't need in order to make more room to see all the ones I do use, I tried to hide the "type" column. Once I did that, my accounts were no longer grouped by "type". I tried this on a few other pages to make sure that this was the normal operation of Skrooge, and it is. You can only group by visible columns.

So I'd like to suggest being able to group by hidden columns. In my example, if I grouped accounts by "type," hiding the "type" column seems a logical way of reclaiming some horizontal real estate for other data, since the "type" column would be now somewhat redundant.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks again for Skrooge.

Hi,

I understand the point and I will study it.

One remark: It's easier for us to manage wishes in https://bugs.kde.org/ instead of forums. ;-)

Hi,

I analysed the request and this is not possible because QAbstractItemModel needs to know the values of the "Group by" columns to be able to group.
So, this column must be visible.

Sorry, but I am not able to implement your request.
