I am using skrooge on Ubuntu 12.04. All the financial institutions you can choose from when you open an account are in Europe. I am in Europe but my banks are not. I tried downloading skrooge from a US server and that did not help. Can I get skrooge to add the US financial institutions?

There are multiple list_bank.txt files and they are all read only. How do I open them so they can be edited? Also which one do I edit?

You are right. You should be able to find these file in your installation. On Kubuntu, they are here:
The file for US is:
To edit it, you must do it as administrator. On Kubuntu:
The current content is:
You can have the list of existing bank like this:
If you want to add a bank, you just have to add the file in this directory (as administrator) and add it in /usr/share/kde4/apps/skrooge/images/logo/l10n/en_US/list_bank.txt. Don't forget to send me, your bank icon and the list_bank.txt modified. |

Will work on it and let you know the results. We have 4 banks to add. I am surprised there are none already compiled! thanks for the help!

Please note that "sudo kate" is a dangerous invocation which can damage your user configuration file permissions and ownership, which may lead to other problems later (like application configuration not applying properly).
The correct command to use is "kdesudo kate".

I am using ubuntu 12 so I used gedit.
There are many bank list files. I choose the one under eng_us something like that. Well that did not work- it would not show up in the list even when I naviaged to that very file. If I put the icon in however it would find that and I could add the bank. Is there something missing from the procedure? thanks garyk |

Cool. I didn't know about this feature. I must admit I didn't read through the entire FAQ list . . .
I grabbed the logo from my bank's website and edited it to fit the format and renamed it per the FAQ. Then I put the new png file in the logo directory, and edited the localized bank list file ". . . /logo/l10n/en_US/list_bank.txt" I started Skrooge, and . . . no new bank appeared in the drop down list (just "ing direct"). (BTW, in the drop down, you can click the folder icon and directly choose the bank icon file, but then the bank will be named, e.g., "/usr/share/kde4/apps/skrooge/images/logo/My_Local_Bank__12345". This is clearly not what I'm supposed to be doing.) So I tried editing the ". . . /logo/list_bank.txt" file (not the localized one). And there we go, bank appears in the list. So Skrooge is reading the list_bank.txt in the "logo" directory, not the list_bank.txt in the localized directory that I thought it would be reading. My system is configured in US English, and otherwise, Skrooge appears correctly localized. Very important point not mentioned in the FAQ: the bank name, xxxxx_xxx_xx, needs to be the exact same case in list_bank.txt as the corresponding filename xxxxx_xxx_xx__yyyyy.png. And since the xxxxx_xxx_xx will be parsed out to be the bank name in the account list, you'll want to capitalize the name as you want it to appear in Skrooge. I found this by capitalizing "Of" in my bank name in the list file, but not the file name. Oops. |

Hi,
I found the issue. In fact, the list_bank.txt is first searched in with the country code (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2). For United States, the country code is "en" and not "en_US" (this is the language). So, the file is searched in ". . . /logo/l10n/en/list_bank.txt" and because it's not found the default list is selected ". . . /logo/list_bank.txt". This is my fault, I changed the default delivery. If you want to test it, you just have to rename "en_US" by "en". Could you send me by email the list_bank.txt for "us" with the associated png files? Thank you. Stephane |

OK, tried that. I removed my bank entry from the ". . . /logo/list_bank.txt" and I copied the ".../en_US/list_bank.txt" to the ". . . /logo/l10n/en/list_bank.txt" and my custom bank disappears from the drop-down list again. So that didn't seem to fix it for me. I'll get those images and txt file to you soon. |

Is the 100x100 maximum pixel rule from the FAQ an absolute requirement? There seem to be several in the logo directory that exceed these limits. Thanks |

No, this is not an absolute requirement.

Oups, you should rename ".../en_US/list_bank.txt" to ". . . /logo/l10n/us/list_bank.txt" because your country is "us". |
