Posible bug with balances

Sun Mar 08, 2015 12:53 pm
Hello,

Usually I don't show 'balance' column on accounts pages, but I don't know why, this time I did:

Don't yopu see anything weird on it?

I've tried with Settings -> Configure Skrooge ... -> Operations -> Compute balances checked and unchecked, with same result.

Is it a bug or I am doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Hi JesusM,

This is not a bug.
In fact, if you want to see the balance column, you need that:
1-Skrooge computes the balances for each operations
2-Add the "Balance" column in table

But, you must know that the task 1 (computation) can decrease the performances of skrooge because this computation must be done for all operations and after each modification.
So, you have an option to disable this computation.

If you disable the computation and you want to see balances, you will have "0.00". This is not good. :(
If you enable the computation and you don't want to see balances, you will decrease performances for nothing. :(
If you disable the computation and you don't want to see balances, that's GOOD. ;D
If you enable the computation and you want to see balances, you will decrease performances but this is needed. ;D

Regards.

Yes, I see, but the weird thing here is that I have the computation enabled, but the balance is not correct. That is why I think something is working wrong.

Thanks

Hi,

You are right, something is strange in your balance.
I am not able to reproduce this potential issue.
Could you send me by email a sample file or an anonymous file (see Tools/Anonymize)?

Thank you for your help.

Even with your anonymous file, I am not able to see the issue:

What is your version of Skrooge?

So, I don't understand.
Do you reproduce the issue with the anonymous file on your computer?

Regards.

It's strange, I've tried to find wich account in the anonymized fileis the one where I saw the issue and I wasn't able to. I looked for an equal amount on an specific date but I didn't find it.

I'll send you a PM with the link to the clear file ...

Hi,

I found the issue.
This is not a bug in balance computation.
If fact, the sort by column is not stable, so sometimes you can have something surprising.

Do the following test:
1-Sort by payee
2-Sort by date
==> the operations are in the good order (the split operation is 3th) and balances are correct.
3-Sort by Amount
4-Sort by date
==> the operations are in the bad order (the split operation is 2th) and balances are correct but surprising.

I will do a correction.

Thank you for your help.
I will remove your file when the correction is done.

Re: Posible bug with balances  Topic is solved

Wow, it's really strange ... but you are right, if I sort the transactions first by payee and then by date the balance is right.

Well, I'm happy if I can help to make Skreooge even (slightly) better .

Thanks!

Hi!

I know this is old, but until now I couldn't try the new version (I was frozen at 1.12.5).

Well, the thing is that now I see the same behaviour, and the same workaround still works: sort first by payee and then by date.

Thanks!
