Paypal import

Sat Apr 11, 2015 7:03 pm
Hello,

Any clues as to what is the recommended way to import from paypal? I tried a CSV file, however skrooge (tried version 1.9.3 and 1.11) complains it failed to find date and amount columns, even though they are there.
I suppose I could toy with the regular expressions to get it to read the file, but surely importing paypal files is a common thing to do? So, I'm guessing there must be an ideal way to do it? Thank you.

Hello,

Weboob has a module Paypal.
I think operations should be imported as other bank operations...

I use qif format download and rename the PayPal downloaded .qif ("Download.qif") file the name of my PayPal Account (the field "Account" in the details view). In my case, the account name is "PayPal Rob" so I rename "Download.qif" to be "PayPal Rob.qif" and then do the import. This way it gets imported into the right account (since there isn't an account number to match when importing). This approach has some important limitations, like I can't have any special characters in the account name: single or double quotes, commas, periods, etc.

Even then, I find that PayPal sometimes doesn't always send all transactions (!!!), so I also download a pdf and compare manually.

To sum up: PayPal is a PITA.

Other than a (slightly) dirty joke, what is a weboob? And no, I don't want to google it, my wife is watching.

xD
I surf for you, we are french so it is not so crude for us :-)
Weboob is a collection of applications able to interact with websites, without requiring the user to open them in a browser. It also provides well-defined APIs to talk to websites lacking one.
http://weboob.org/

The framework (It-What-Must-Not-Be-Named) provides a few number of APIs to interface website from some application (in python).
There is a weboob.capabilities.bank API that allows to interface with different bank websites and paypal is available.

In other part, Skrooge could use this capability API to import operations from these website.

I use w.... but not in conjunction with Skrooge (not yet). So I have no more information.

Remark for Stephane: KMymoney is quoted on w... web site but not Skrooge :-\
