Now this probably isn't really a "bug" per se -- it's technically a user error -- but it is a case where a user can inadvertently and unknowingly get into a confusing situation when reconciling an account.
Here's an example of how this can happen, and the confusing situation it presents: I usually reconcile my accounts by getting the current balance from the institution's website (instead of off a paper statement). To avoid transcription errors, I use the mouse to select and copy the balance value from the site and paste it into the "Final Balance" box. But bank websites are often rather "busy" pages, and it's not uncommon to select more text than intended. Usually this is obvious from this browser highlighting, but not always. Sometimes you can accidentally grab one or more return/linefeed characters or even some not-visible text or numbers and unknowingly paste it into the Final Balance. The Final Balance box only shows one line, but more than one can be pasted in. So to the user, it can appear that the box is still empty after the paste operation. Or other weird things can happen, too, like balances not reconciling because extra (invisible) lines of data are corrupting the balance, or edits to the Final Balance value appear to be unsuccessful when backspacing over text on the last line, not knowing that there are more characters hidden from view. To the average user, this odd situation can be difficult to diagnose. I only figured out what I'd done wrong by backspacing an extra character in the edit box and seeing another line appear. Only when I pasted the clipboard contents into a text editor did I see that I'd inadvertently copied the extra line. Again, this isn't really a defect in Skrooge, and I don't have a specific suggestion to fix it, but it would be nice if it were possible to protect the user from getting himself into a situation that is difficult to recognize and fix. Thanks. |

Hi,
Normally, if the text pasted in the final balance fields can not be interpreted as a numeric, then the test color is changed to red. This is an indication showing that you have something to do. Regards, Stephane |

Now I see it, it turns red after leaving the box. I'd been entering all kinds of crazy stuff and not seeing red that because I hadn't tried to "check" a box on a transaction yet. |
