Moving Transactions

Fri Jan 22, 2016 11:20 am
Hello everyone:
I am testing Skrooge now. I started by importing my Kmymoney file into Skrooge. Now I am left with many duplicate expense accounts. Is there a way/method to move all transactions say in an income Account named Social Security Benefits/Social Security Benefits to Social Security Benefits. That is from a sub-account to the top level account. I need to do this to clean up the many duplicated and mislabled accounts I now have.

Hi,

I am the main developer of Skrooge and try to do my best to provide the best import module for KMyMoney.
If you found a bug, could you send me a sample file to reproduce it?
(My name is in the "about" of Skrooge.

Perhaps I have not explained my problem well enough. When I import my Kmymoney data into Skrooge it simple imports all the Kmymoney accounts and categorizes. This leaves me with a lot of duplicate categorizes with the same name and a ugly looking category list. What I am looking for is a way to move all the Kmymoney data out of a kmymoney catagory and move it into a skrooge catagory, then delete the empty Kmymoney catagory to clean up the catagory list. Right now it is unusable. Will send you my file by private email.

Hi,

I can propose you 2 interesting features:
1-You can use drag & drop in "Category" panel to re-organise categories. If you drop a category A on a category B, all operations of A with be set with category B
2- You can use "Delete unused category" to remove all categories without operations

I hope this will help you.

Thanks for the answer does work, but not always the way I expect. Some times it moves category B not into category A but makes it a sub category of A. Not what I want. For me I am finding it may be easier to start over, painful as that may be.

Just to give you more details.
If you have this:
CAT 1 > CAT 2
CAT 3

If you drag CAT 3 and drop it on CAT 2, you will have this:
CAT 1 > CAT 2 > CAT 3

Now, if you select CAT 3 and delete it then all operations of CAT 3 will be transferred to CAT 2.
CAT 1 > CAT 2

So, this is a merge.

But if I have

cat1 which was an imported category and was a top level and all sub categories are deleted and it is named test1

cat2 which the skrooge category named test1 and I move cat 1 to merge with cat2 I end up with

cat2
cat1

It does not merge into cat2.

If you have:
CAT1
CAT2
and you want to merge CAT2 into CAT1, you must drag CAT2 and drop it on CAT1, you will have this
CAT1
|-----CAT2
then delete CAT2, all operations of CAT2 will be set to CAT1. You will have:
CAT1
