Skrooge snap/flatpak package

Mon Jul 04, 2016 11:28 am
I'd like to voice my support for some sort of portable version of Skrooge, whether it be a Snap package or a Flatpak.

In recent weeks, Arch has pushed Qt 5.7 into the stable repositories and, as a result, rendered Skrooge unusable (crash on startup). Additionally, I switched from Arch to Fedora 23 on my desktop about a month ago and haven't been able to use Skrooge because the copr package in Fedora 23 (and 24) has been stuck on 2.2.0 since February (I need 2.4.0 because of Arch). As of right now, I have been unable to use Skrooge on either of my primary computers because of distribution packaging problems for about 3 weeks. Skrooge is an application I need to use daily in order for it to be effective, so this is understandably frustrating.

Since Skrooge files regularly become backwards-incompatible with older versions as development moves forward, I think it would be appropriate to provide a standalone package that comes with the necessary libraries to prevent problems like the ones I've described above. That way, the developers can move at their own pace, and users can choose to upgrade when it's comfortable and convenient for them.

In the meantime, I get the sense that using an Ubuntu-based distribution is probably the best way to go for using Skrooge. Just FYI for anyone curious.

Re: Skrooge snap/flatpak package

I use skrooge and found it awesome. I totally agree for a snap or flatpak package or appimage.

Even for me on a KDE neon system, I'm stuck with problem dependency to install skrooge from the ppa. So I would highly appreciate an independent package.

sudo apt install skrooge-kf5
Broken skrooge-kf5:amd64 Dépend on qtbase-abi-5-5-1 [ amd64 ] < none -> > ( none )
Considering libqt5core5a:amd64 5531 as a solution to skrooge-kf5:amd64 9999

sudo apt install libqt5core5a
libqt5core5a is already the newest version (5.7.1+dfsg-3+16.04+build5).
