I thought I would give Skrooge a try, having some problems with KMyMoney and looking for something else to use. I installed Skrooge on Fedora 24 through the package manager without a problem. Then I tried to import the files from KMyMoney. Problem. I tried both with the QIF export from KMyMoney and their own .kmy file. Got errors on both. I have quite a few transactions where I have paid my credit cards or transferred money from one account to another and each one has a confirmation statement copied from the bank's website showing the number, the date, the amount transferred and balance. Skrooge is trying to execute these for some reason.
I have looked at everything in the package manager and this looks the best so any help would be appreciated. I tried asking for help with the problem in KMyMoney forum and haven't gotten a reply. It's been posted for awhile now. thanks for any help, john |

Hi,
Import of kmy file should work. If this is not the case, this could be a bug. Could you generate a kmymoney anonymized file and try to reproduce the error? If you are able to reproduce it, could you send me the file to try to correct it? Regards. PS: My email is in the "About ..." of Skrooge |

Thanks for the quick response, sorry but I was out all day yesterday so had to wait until today to try what you said.
I created a new KMyMoney account and made one entry with the same time memo message that caused the problem. I then exported it as a qif and it was imported successfully. When I tried with a qif from my regular KMyMoney account I got the following error:
I tried with the test KMyMoney kmy file and it also worked successfully. When I tried with the regular kmy file I received this error:
I then clicked on the History button and it showed this:
I even tried erasing this memo and it just jumped to the next memo that had something in it. Thanks for the help, hopefully you can gather something from this. |

Could you send me a kmy file containing only one operation causing the error?

I would if I knew how. The kmy file contains 6 accounts dating back to 2011. I don't know how to extract just one transaction. I looked at the online manual and that was not covered. I did get a qif file of one transaction. This gave the same error as when I tried to import the entire account.
If you tell me how to export one transaction to kmy I will be happy to include. sending email now john |

I would like to thank you for all of your help and support. However, I manually input some data to try it out. The ledger is not what I am used to using and seems awkward to me. Of course this is a personal choice and I am not criticizing the program.
I hope I have not wasted your time. It really looks like a great program but being in the United States the tax information is different. Again, thanks for your help. john |

Hi John,
Thanks to the QIF file you sent me by email, I did the following correction: https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=skrooge.git ... e0da83c3db Could be helpful if you can provide me by email a kmy file containing only a transaction causing the failure? You can may be create this file by doing: 1-Copy you kmy file in a new one 2-Open the new one 3-Remove all useless accounts and transactions (keep only one causing the failure) Thank you in advance for your help. |
