New to Skrooge and Linux Mint!

Fri Jan 26, 2018 7:15 pm
l have read a previous thread with "smankowski," and "Kay" and l am also new to Linux and Skrooge l did follow and understand what you have tried to explain to Kay. I also had difficulties in understanding the "reconcile" and have been using the program for about 2 months now. I had recently received a bank statement and tried to reconcile but not being familiar to the program still am not certain. Fortunately l still have another computer running my Quicken so l am using the two programs until l am comfortable with Skrooge.
I had also downloaded the program using the "Software Manager" and have the Beta 1.9.3 and was wondering if and how l should update it to a "Stable" version , if indeed, is it necessary? Will updates be automatic or must l manually install them?

I'm also running Skrooge in Linux Mint and suggest that you upgrade to version 2.10.5. Check your KDE Frameworks too. I'm using version 5.18.0.

Well l guess that does partially answer my question , but being new to Linux as well as Skrooge l am not certain as to how it is done (the update) , l had thought that by being a user of Skrooge, like Linux Mint, the program would be updated to the most recent stable version when available.
So now knowing that is not the case , how do l proceed to update my program? I am still unfamiliar with the Terminal process having been a Microsoft "Sheep" for more years that l can say. .......
I have just found on the Software Manager the New Version of Skrooge 2.10.5 and loaded it but l am not sure if it has loaded, it still indicates (on my Skrooge home page), that l have 1.9.3 Beta ,l am very confused and believe there is more to do ?

You'll find that, in the interest of stability, Linux Mint rarely offers the latest version of software.

From my notes I see that I added the ppa:s-mankowski/ppa-kf5 repository to the PPA section of my Software Sources. There might be alternate routes to the latest version, but try that for now. You'll find Software Sources in the Menu.

Hi,

I would like to add something.
I recently discovered that Skrooge could be particularly ugly when an icon theme like "Tango" was used. It seems to me that this is the default case on a Gnome desktop. In addition to being ugly, some icons are missing and make some functions difficult to discover. I have made a correction that will be available in version 2.11.0 which I plan to release in a week. I therefore advise you to use my ppa as mentioned above.

Regards.

I have located your ppa thru the linix Mint forums and blindly copied and pasted into the Terminal the codes and had saved my vers 1.9.3 Beta version before proceeding.
All went well ( though my stress levels were increased while deleting the beta program as advised) and l now have vers. 2.10.5. The upgrade to your planned 2.11.0 is anticipated.
I have found though that l have been able to increase the font size of my operations using the slide scale (bottom right hand side), l have not been able to adjust the sidebar icons and the rest of the panel, they are painfully small and l have tried to locate within Skrooge and within Mint some way to make these areas larger to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dave

The font size can be selected through the system settings. (I don't know where on gnome).

I will try the Systems Settings? ....Menu>Preferences>Display>resolution??? OR..System settings>fonts>font settings>Scaling?
I had found just now if when on Skrooge and the drop box on Settings if l click Fullscreen l can not undo it and l had to reboot to restore screen size.

No, this is the resolution of the screen. You should have a place where you can choose the font and its size.

CTRL+SHIFT+F allows to switch the full screen mode. No need to reboot!

When l select the font size it alters the fonts but has no effect on the Icons or header bar?
I also find that the whole page (on the laptop)will enlarge when l have my HDMI plugged into my TV it seems that is the easiest way to enlarge the icons, when l right click on the grey area of the header l get a dropdown menu that offers options for the icon sizing and l currently have it set at Huge.
