New Skrooge user...bugs?

Fri Feb 09, 2018 2:46 pm
Hi and thanks for the new version 2.11.0. I have made an entry (operation) and find l was unable to enter a "Number" l had a bank transaction number that l had copied and pasted into the box but when l checked "Modify" the box went blank and there was no entry made to the ledger. I then entered the number manually still did not work.
I am certain it can be done but possibly there is a bug?

Hi,

What is the number you tried to enter? Is it only numerical?

Regards.

No it was alpha numerical ... MKY7B JD0K5, I had a week ago entered a transaction that was numerical and it went ok but l can't recall if that was prior to the update.
Dave

Just tried a numerical entry and it recorded ok the issue then is with Alpha numerical entries.

This is not a real bug because Skrooge has been designed to have numerical values in operations numbers.
This has been done like this because:
- I never saw alpha numerical values before.
- This allows to propose next values when operations are entered manually.

If you think that skrooge should allow alpha numerical values then I have to study how to propose next values.
Today next values are simple:
- The next value of 12345 is 12346
- The next value of 12349 is 12350
- The next value of 999 is 1000

But with alpha numerical value?
I image that:
- The next value of JD0K5 is JD0K6
But what could be the next value of JD0K9 or ZZZZ?
The problem with you value is that it contains a space.

So, I don't really know what to propose. What is your point of view?
Regards.

well the Alpha numeric value is a confirmation of a banking transaction assigned by the bank so that should the need arise l can refer to the exact transaction should an issue present itself.
I understand why you choose a numeric progression but it is too bad the banks don't.
I suppose their confirmation could be placed in the comments box but it would be nice to be able to possibly override the system on Skrooge.

OK. I'm doing the change for supporting alpha numerical value. Next values will be proposed only for numerical one.
