Would it be that l am running Linux Mint 18.3 with Cinnamon? I can not find any KDE apps on my computer other than the mention of it in Skrooge, l am truly grateful for all your assistance but am a complete novice with Linux systems.

You must launch systemsettings5 from a console
If not installed, you must install systemsettings.

I do have systemsettings 5.5.5 but l am confused as to what selections need to be made within that.
I am going to revert back to the old Windows Fix....shut it down and re boot see if that changes anything!

The Windows fix did nothing.. :D

Well no success yet with the sound effects but l have taken an old Toshiba U300 laptop l had and loaded the same OS Linux 18.2 Cinnamon onto it. I then loaded the Skrooge program from the Software Manager (1.9.3 Beta) l found that l had the sounds on this Laptop! I then tried to use the PPAs you offered on March 27 , and could not update..this is the messaging l received during that attempt:

OK l had removed 1.9.3 using the software manager and after removing had discovered the kf5 version 2.10.0 was now showing as was kf5-common package so l have installed both packages using the software manager. I now have the 2.10.1 vers. but no longer have the sound.
I had also noticed that l still had an account and operations from the 1.9.3 version that l had removed? If l had removed the program how could the data stored there have been somehow transferred into the new install 2.10.1?
I am wondering now that l no longer have the sound effects in 2.10.1 if the issue may be in the version on the Software manager?
I think l will remove it and try loading the program with the terminal?

If I well understand, you have sounds with Skrooge 1.9.3 but not with Skrooge 2.10.1.
Could you confirm?

What? You removed some operations or accounts in a Skrooge document and they are not removed when you open the document with Skrooge 2.10.1 !!!!
That's not possible. When something is deleted, it's deleted !
wind_rose_2 wrote:If l had removed the program how could the data stored there have been somehow transferred into the new install 2.10.1?

Skrooge opens a .skg file. You can open a skg file produced with Skrooge 1.9.3 with Skrooge 2.10.1, the document will be migrated on the fly to be compliant with new features.

Don't try this! There is only one way to install software on linux: apt install.

To have sounds, you must have Skrooge 2.12.0.
To install is, you must do that:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:s-mankowski/ppa-kf5
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt full-upgrade

THat is correct all worked well with 1.9.3 when l loaded it from the Software Manager

Are you saying l should NOT mount 2.12.0 using the Software Manager and that l SHOULD only mount it using the Terminal :apt install ???

To have sounds, you must have Skrooge 2.12.0.
To install is, you must do that:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:s-mankowski/ppa-kf5
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt full-upgrade

I have now installed as per the above but still do not have any sound effects when performing any actions. After the sudo apt full-upgrade command l had removed any unnecessary files as instructed during the command .
My primary computer with all my "needed" Skrooge operations is a Lenovo Yoga 2 ,again no sound, so l have loaded this old Toshiba U300 with Linux and Skrooge just so l may try to experiment without loosing any necessary information. I comment on this just so you know that you may "experiment" with me in trying to resolve this issue.
I am loving the program by the way and getting very comfortable with it however this sound issue is annoying me!
Regards
Dave

Could you confirm that you have well Skrooge 2.12.0?
You can check it in the "About" of Skrooge.

Yes l do have the correct version 2.12.0.
I apologize for having stated the 2.10.1 and had corrected that in my last posting. Sometime l get a number in my head and it just stays there :)

Now, you must check that you have sound when you click on the "play" button in KDE settings.
See where is my mousse in the following screen capture of KDE setting:
Image

If you don't have sound in KDE settings, you can't expect to have sound in Skrooge.

I have this screenshot (l hope l loaded it correctly) the page is similar to what you have but not exact, it is from the "Setting"> configure notifications within the Skrooge program 2.12.0 and there is no sound being generated.
I do not understand you when you say" if it is not in the KDE settings then it will not be in Skrooge" The screen shot you have illustrated looks like the same one in Skrooge? Is there another place for configuring sounds?
The "sound page" l get from Menu>Preferences>sound works fine and my Linux Cinnamon Mint 19.3 has all sounds operational. It just has no sound in Skrooge ,but as l had said previously l had the sounds when l had initially loaded Skrooge 1

when l go to Menu>Preferences>Kde System Settings , what options should l have there as it only contains Shortcuts, Settings and Connectivity and nothing about sounds?

I think what you are saying is in order for the sounds to play in Skrooge the Skrooge program will get its sounds from the KDE Systems Settings Package. So if that is correct then l should be able to go into KDE System Settings and find a file that allows the configuration of Notifications in programs utilizing the KDE System Settings Eg.Skrooge.

If that is correct then l can not seem to locate that information in the KDE System Settings folder. The only options displayed in the KDE Sys.Package under Settings are Proxy , Connection Preferences , SSL Preferences , Cache , Cookies and Browser Identification.
Would there be an update available for the KDE Systems Settings file that would contain audio (Sounds)?
