[HOW TO] Adding a new column/field

Wed May 05, 2021 8:43 pm
Hello,

I have some participation in funds. There is a (almost) standard id for the funds, the ISIN, and it is usually the easiest way to find information about them. I think then it is a good idea to save this code, and apparently the best place for it is the 'internet code' field for the 'unit'.

But ... depending of the country of origin, the 'Download source' to get the values varies:
  • for Spanish funds I am using http://www.quefondos.com and a script I wrote to get the value. The 'Internet code' that this source uses is the ISIN, so great.
  • for some Irish funds (and pension plan) I am using http://www.morningstarfunds.ie, and again my own script. Sadly, Morningstar uses an internal 'internet code' instead of the well known ISIN.

So I cannot use the 'internet code' field to save the ISIN if it is not being used to pull the values.

I thought on 'properties' and I tried to use it thinking that it would be a new field for the 'concept unit' (I had never used custom properties before in Skrooge), but I learnt that it is actually more like a tag with a fix value to be defined, and not even visible in the units or operation table, you need to open the 'properties' dock. Of course I can still using it and create a 'tag' named ISIN for each fund with the proper value, but it is not an ideal solution.

So ... any idea on how to do this? How to add a custom property or new field to an object type?
