Skrooge: Buggy UI

Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:17 am
Hello,

I've just tried out Skrooge 0.9 and the application seems to be really packed with interesting features but the buggy UI makes these features not really enjoyable for me:

* Translation (to German) are very incomplete (around 50% I guess). For me it would be more comfortable to have the entire application in English instead to switch all the time while reading. Yes, I know I could unset my locale before starting.

* Localization of dates is incorrect (or not done), e.g. 2001-05 used for German locale.

* UI painting is horribly slow. I click on Operations and first see the red, right part of the table, before it disappears the rest is rendered. It takes so long I can actually read words from the red part. The appears at various occasions.

* Column width seems to recalculated every time I access a pane. That makes the table being and shown and then the columns jump to their final positions.

* Unset LANG does not effect all translations (but some!). The dashboard still shows Bericht, instead of Report.

* I click the Bericht checkbox and the report is opened. The check box stays checked. Not exactly what I expect from a check box.

* The import seems to be unable to handle Umlauts (äöü). I imported from a ofx file

* Column width is fixed and can't be changed by the user.

* Sort order and sorted by column is not saved when changing a pane.

Has the project a bug tracker? I have found no link on the homepage (neither a link to a mailinglist) The KDE bugticker returns 2 hits when searching for skrooge.

These are problems I have discovered by using the app just for 10 minutes...

Is there some kind of problem with my compilation/system or is Skrooge really such buggy?

The best solution is to use help/Switch Application Language.

You are right. I will try to correct this.

This is strange. Skrooge has been tested on a netbook with good performance.
Could you tell me more about your computer ?

By using the contextual menu on the header of the table you can switch on/off this automatic resize.

You have to use Help/Switch Application Language to select the language you want.

I don't understand this point. Could you detail?

OFX import is done by libOFX. Could you check if you have the same issue in KMyMOney?
Horus wrote:* Column width is fixed and can't be changed by the user.

Yes, it's possible. See contextual menu on the header of each table for that.
Horus wrote:

Yes, it's possible. You just have to save the state of the page (see floppy disk icon on the tab of the page) or create a bookmark.

Yes, we have a bug tracker.
The information is on our web site: http://skrooge.org/
The bug tracker is https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?form ... ct=skrooge

I didn't see real bugs here. You just don't know how to use the application yet. ;)

Hey Stephane,

thanks for replying!

My System is a AMD Phenom X4 3,4GHz, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 5770 using fglrx. KDE 4.6.3 on Arch. I'm experiencing no UI perfomance issues otherwise. I'll be happy to provide any more information.

I actually like that feature it's just that the slow repainting makes it ugly.

Ok, that works this way. Though I wouldn't consider that a wise UI design choice. Most (all) applications I know just save the ordering and options like resize yes/no.

Yes, KMyMoney has the problems with Umlauts. Might be a problem with libOFX.

I've read somewhere that were will not be any HBCI/FinTS support with Skrooge. Is this information still valid?

Thanks!

Hi,

I checked again and I did not find the problem. Where do you have this issue ? In "Operation" page ?

Could you check that you have good settings in "systemsettings" ?

I have the same kind of machine and I have very good performances.
Do you have the problem only in "Operation" page or in "Bank & Account" page too?
How many operation do you have in you document?

I have it everywhere. Honestly I got no idea how to count the operations, but not more than 200.

Hi,

Just for your information, I drastically improved performance in the new BETA version 0.9.93.
