Hi everyone,
I finally try the install today of the image with hardware acceleration. The install worked as expected. However, I've got a big trouble: the wifi does not work despite I copied on the right place wl1271-nvs.bin. The wifi icon is red with a white cross. If I launch the "app" Configure wifi, it says "No wifi SSID found". Any idea on how to solve it? Otherwise, it is still a bit slow and very laggy. It works very flowly at times and then hangs for a few seconds (or more). I suppose that using the image without hw acceleration won't help. I'll try to disable strigi to see. I had also the problem that, after having opened the image app, I couldn't get out: there was no more top bar and no way to make it appear. A hint? For the rest, without wifi, it's hard to say more. Anyway, it's still very promising and I encourage developers to go on! |

Can you please check the output of "dmesg" to see if the wireless card driver is finding the firmware?

Note that the followings don't work as well : GPS (no position, no way to set it up), suspend (nothing happens) and the power button isn't recognised by Plasma active => no suspend possible.
For the suspend, something interesting is that the CPU applets dont fin'd the CPU… maybe related. Here is the output of dmesg:

Okay, it seems to be succeeding.
Does running "iwlist scan" as root give any results?

Sorry,
I must apology but I had only to configure the wifi on the commandline. I didn't notice it want it was only writtenfor the first image and I installedthe second. The other problems stilloccur though (gps, suspend and screen that doesn't react to the accelerometer [allways in portrait mode]) |

For the one interested, as the instructions are a bit messy for a dual boot, these are how I did :
Installation Howto Preparation
Download the related kernel: zImage - without hardware acceleration or zImage - with hardware acceleration, but less stable (see download page). Please note, those zImages contain a different kernel default bootcmd. The root filesystem of this zImage will be expected on a micro SD Card pluged into the reader of your tablet.

Since Vivaldi effort provides no status updates I was thinking about getting an Archos G9. Is there some work going on to bring Plasma Active there in shape (for example suspend/resume, stable hw acceleration and etc.). I.e. should I invest in buying the tablet with hope that PlasmaActive experience will get better on it? Or it's better to wait for Vivaldi (about which we are in the dark anyway)?

From now, it is possible to install it on G9 (I did it) but it is still a development image, far from being stable. The last stable image dates from May and is not very usable want it's very slow and buggy. The last development/testing images (weekly images) are much more reactive but still buggy: I have a problem with compositing that makes the system "freezes" (or at least the X) when I attempt to use the on-screen keyboard I didn't try the suspend resume but at least the powerbutton works. The GPS didn't work for me. They plan to make a Plasma 3.0 realease end of the month, maybe is there going to be something more stable. They are maybe waiting plasma 3 to release Vivaldi (I'm not in the secrets). So, if I was you, I'd wait for a usable image on G9 before buying it. Maybe a question of weeks. |

I renew the question asked earlier : do I have to copy the zImage and flash the kernel each week when I reinstall the new weekly devel image or can I just deploy the new image without flashing the kernel? (I installed it on the external sd card)

Does anyone know if Archos are working on fixing bugs in their drivers (like GPU one which causes problems)? If they aren't, it means we'll never see a stable image.

Apparently not. I filled several bugs in and except a few questions in the beginning or a few reports of people on other tablets saying that they can't reproduce it, there is no much activity on it. Unfortunately. I could, with a workaround make the onscreen keyboard working but, there are still problems of programs crashing ("segmentation fault" or "out of memory"), some buttons/link not working on touch, the lockscreen not working and the plasma topbar crashing after a few time of use... When I read thread on plasma active mailing list, it seems that this kind of problems only happen on the Archos image and not on the others... Or is it my own tablet? But I haven't any issue with Android... |

Update:
Maurice De Laferté has worked recently on the Archos image and since yesterday is there a usable Plasma Active image (RC3, now RC4). http://share.basyskom.com/plasma-active ... r/testing/ The most anoying bugs, keyboard and activity settings blocking the system, are resolved. The system goes to sleep with the lockscreen that can be asked via the powerbutton. It can be shutted down normally via that way. Nevertheless, there are still few bugs. The RC version is still without hardware acceleration but it is fluent. The most annoying bug for me is that the system can freeze after a few time if to much memory is used (to much programs [more than 3... depends on which programs] or to heavy documents). Maybe is it dued to my amount of RAM (my Archos G9 is 526Mo RAM and 1,2 Ghz) but I don't have these problems in Android. The memory footprint of Plasma Active as still to be reduced if one wants it to be released to a wider public. |

Hi,
do you know which kernel sources, patches and configuration the basyskom guys are using? Because I'm trying to rebuild the archos ics and the mer adaption kernel with an from the pvr image extracted /proc/config.gz and get in trouble while booting it... This are the sources I`ve tried: http://gitorious.org/archos/archos-gpl-gen9-kernel-ics and https://gitorious.org/archos-gen9-mer-adaptation-kernel Could you get running the omap-versions on your tablets? I cant get it running on my G9 101 Turbo...could be the `turbo` a problem? Each Omap build ends with a black screen direct after the bootmenu. The PVR-Version is booting, but i get a Segmentain fault (11) after booting up the newest version.. older versions are running very well except of the known bugs. Thanks a lot, Andreas |

The Archos Gen9 hardware adaption for Plasma Active is build in the following two Open Build Service projects:
Archos Gen9 general adaption project Archos Gen9 pvr graphic acceleration extension project You will find the exact revision of the tarball content inside related <name>.changes file of each package. For example kernel-adaptation-archos-gen9-pvr.changes:
or kernel-adaptation-archos-gen9.changes (omapfb):
In case you have trouble with pvr and blackscreen, please take a look to pvr-omap4 package. There you will find a systemd service and related script to enable the backlight again. |
