Is Plasma Active still a thing?

Fri May 29, 2015 12:30 pm
Everyone seems to have stopped talking about it. I was wondering about putting KDE on one of those laptops that is touch screen and can behave tablet-like if you remove the keyboard, but still has the power of an AMD64 processor. Is Plasma Active a thing in KDE/Plasma 5?

Plasma Inactive?

I'd also like to know this! Similarly am looking at trying it out - even the list of supported devices was last edited in 2014. So... it's awaiting a reboot, or it's dead?

I'd like some clarification as well, especially in the light of Plasma Mobile and whatnot.

The last news I've seen is that Plasma Active was in fact ported to KF5 as a GSoC project last year: https://kokeroulis.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... ed-to-kf5/

Looking into Git, the Plasma Active repository seem to be, well, active: http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=plasma-mobile.git (It's called "Plasma Mobile", though it's clearly Plasma Active, whereas Plasma Mobile is here: http://quickgit.kde.org/?p=plasma-phone-components.git They probably share a lot of code, though.)

So although I'd like some confirmation about it, I believe that Plasma Active and Plasma Mobile are based on the same foundation, it's just different UIs, the former aimed at tablets and the latter at phones. Plasma Active now seems to be using the desktop Plasma Shell, actually. Though it's been a year since the Plasma Active 4 tag; would be nice to know if Plasma Active 5 is planned to be tagged at some point.
