I installed PA on my Dell Latitude XT as a vanilla openSuse+the PA packages, a rather old but nice touchscreen laptop. Overall ipressions were pretty good. Nice looking. Peek and launch were intuitive and made sense.
A bunch of the window management stuff feels clunky at this early stage. I often found myself wishing for faster ways to do common tasks lik closing / switching windows. Closing windows and the lack of any kind of equivalent of alt+tab made things feel kind of slow. I think that part of this actually comes from the peek and launch bar taking a bit of work to pull down. Its less kinetic, but it felt like a siple button to open it would have sped things up a lot. For some reason ShareLikeConnect doesn't show up in the top corner for me, despite having its packages installed from the repos. I found that the onscreen keyboard was often hiding important gui elements, for example when going to the edit activity window, it's activated by the rename text field, but then covers the button to save your changes. Anyway, it's early days yet, and impressive how uch has been done so fast. There's loads of nice little touches like the unlock screen with the clock. Some niggles like no clear way of shutting down and a slow onscreen keyboard, but overall a really solid release that I look forward seeig mature (especially the recommendations stuff). Thanks for the positive feedback (and sorry for not replying earlier)!
We are already working on some of the issues you mentioned, others will surely improve with future releases. Constructive feedback like yours is always very welcome as user experience is the key element for Plasma Active, so keep it coming! |
