Viewsonic gtablet

Mon Oct 31, 2011 4:33 pm
Greetings,

I came across your site from using Kubuntu and since then I got curious about the Plasma ActiveOne. Since Viewsonic had license issues with google upon releasing the gtablet, they can't release an HC 3.0 update on it. I myself own one of it and had used various roms to satisfy my use of it. Unfortunately, there is no rom that is just right for the purpose I am looking for.

Through the years I have been using KDE and had preferred it rather than using windows and now since that you had made an amazing OS, is there a way for me to install Plasma Active One on my gtablet? I would like to try it if someone would point me to the right directions.

My plan is to install this first on my tablet and do a vid of it and publish the vid on gtab dev community and see what happens next. I know that ones it had been installed, there is a wsy to double boot it with android versions.

Thank you very much.

Dee Hi,

I have been working on Advent Vega with Plasma Active.

We were working on MeeGo bu now moved to Mer as a core.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive ... 27384.html

which is linked from the MeeGo Tegra Wiki page

http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/TEGRA2

Do you have kernel source for the gtablet? You need a 2.6.38 kernel or something around 2.6.36 and backport the gpu kernel driver.

We have had success with Plasma on Advent Vega, Povi ,Asus Transformer and trimslice all Tegra 2 devices so if you can get a kernel chances are good.

You may have seen some of my videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/vgrade100

There are also some instructions which may be useful here

In addition to vgrade's comment: we will be working on bringing more "ready to install" images for various ARM devices as we work on Plasma Active Two and Three. It is still early days yet and there is work to be done in terms of getting things running as smoothly as possible with full features across the board. The ARM space is fairly tricky as there are large differences from device to device that necessitate custom kernels for each one (ergo vgrade's inquiry about kernel sources).

vgrade: I came across this link to kernel sources:

http://tapntap.http.internapcdn.net/tap ... -Patch.zip

while on this page: http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/support.htm. It is apparently a patch (in all 119683 lines; +114832, -1230) to the kernel at:

git://nv-tegra.nvidia.com/linux-2.6.git

So while we currently don't have an installable image for your device (yet? :), maybe we're not that far away from one? :)

There does seem to be 2.6.38 support.

Hi Guys,

I have returned. The 2.6.38 is not in existence at the moment. The 2.6.36 is I believe is still in trial stage which they are working for HC3.2. I have read in one of the Viewsonix's Kernel designers blog that they can't release any further Kernel upgrade for it because of Google license problem. Glad that Pershoot is the one making the Kernel dev for the Gtab.I believe you can contact Pershoot directly and work with him regarding the kernel. He is a nice guy.

These are the links that might help out:

Vgrade,

Can you PM me the steps you took to make it work on Vegan? I will try doing it on my end. The problem that we are facing with your idea is that, from what I have read, the Dev Kit has a dedicated port for dev and the one on the market has none. The Dev kit can take anything you throw at em and conf it for a specific device such as gtab. This is what I understand from what I have read . I will setup an ADB and the dev application at home getting the time for it.

NOTE: This is a learning curve for me.

Speaking of Retina and hi pixel density monitors. Looks like this stuff is just massively too expensive for now. Wonder if the iMacs will get such a resolution eventually?
