Hi,
I guess that digiKam and Gwenview are using this same kipi plugin for image showing. In digiKam I can see raw files (*.cr2) but Gwenview deosn't display any raw files. I guess that digiKam uses Rawconverter form kipi to show raw image. why Gwenview can't do that ? |

Kipi plugins are used to do things like importing/exporting images. They are not used to load images themselves. digiKam has specific support for raw images from libkdcraw.
I consider it out of Gwenview scope to have specific support for raw images (though I am considering getting support for at least viewing embedded previews when applicable). If you are into raw images, you probably want to use digiKam. |

Why there is no view Raw files (i need nef from nikon files) i thik there is very easy to add , many users have nikon, canon ant others cameras and have raw files (beacose is better format to capture photos), dolophin create thumbs and there is no speed app to view one file - digikam run very slowly,
if anyone know how to do it please add view raw files (i think media browser witout raw support is semi photo browser not full browser) there is avaible libs to parse raw files so please attach it to render raw photos, |

I have to agree, DigiKam is a good application but not really suitable to just take a quick look at a few images which are in some random folder. It would be nice if Gwenview would support that.

While I don't want to add explicit support for raw to Gwenview, someone could write a Qt image plugin to read raw images using libraw. This way all Qt and KDE applications would benefit from it.

what about using showfoto instead of digikam for a few raw images in random folders?

That sounds like a good solution for me. Even on my notebook with a SSD hard disk, showfoto needs > 3.5 seconds for startup (even for a "warm start"!), while gwenview shows up in < 0.7 seconds. This might sounds short, but it's actually a huge difference if you want to click a few images from the file manager. Other than that, showfoto would be just fine. Best regards, Sven

The image you see in digikam is usually the embedded jpeg preview from the raw file. a good solution for fast browsing of images

-- Bump --
So it looks like this problem of not displaying RAW images has been solved with Gwenview 4.13.1, however, it has created a problem for me in my workflow. I shoot in both RAW as well as jpeg and I use(d) Gwenview to quickly review the jpegs and delete poor shots and then later I'd delete the corresponding RAW image. Is there a way to select which image formats are displayed in Gwenview? I'd rather not have Gwenview display the RAW images, just the jpegs. Thoughts? Thanks! Bob |
