Gwenview is sometimes unable to open images saved from the internet with FireFox (typically 1 in 25 photos have this problem). Preview thumbnails are not generated for such pictures, and attempting to open them in Gwenview shows the error "Loading meta information failed". To see them I need to right-click and open with Okular.
Problem is, I heard this was fixed in KDE 4.9.5. But I upgraded from 4.8.5 and it still takes place. Anyone know if I can fix Gwenview somehow, or when the problem will be solved if it's an issue on its end? |

Hi,
This problem often happens when the extension of an image does not match its format, for example a jpeg file named foo.png. You can check the real format of your image by running "file <path/to/your/image>" on the terminal. If the format does not match the extension, renaming the file should fix the issue. This bug has been fixed in 4.10.0, but is still present in 4.9.5. |

Ah... for some reason I suspected that at some point. I remember being uncertain about the format of a file once, and when I renamed it from jpg to png (or the other way around) it started showing the thumbnail. No idea why some people save images with the wrong format though... I get this issue rather frequently with images I save from galleries, and can't rename them all each time. I'll wait for KDE / Gwenview 4.10 in that case.
