Hi,
Sometimes Gwenview doesnt show any folders. Starting from commandline with a path also doesnt work.
I am on Kubuntu 14.04.1
Usually the first instance works fine and the second instance crashes after a while.

Apparently Gwenview does load the folders but takes a long time.This seems to be a KDE issue as Amarok also behaves similarly. I have Akonadi and Semantic Search turned off. Dunno whats going on.

Which version of Gwenview and KDE are you running? Is Dolphin also affected by this issue?
Are there any special characteristics regarding the folder which takes time to be listed, such as having a large number of files/folders in it?

Dolphin behaves normally, Amarok is 2.8.0, Gwenview is 4.13.1 and KDE is 4.13.3.
Any folder takes a while to load in both apps regardless of the number of files.

does a new user exhibit the same behavior?

the folders are local and std Linux filesystems?

Do you have thumbnailing enabled in Dolphin?

I have Previews switched off in Dolphin. But Dolphin works fine even with them on.
With a new user both apps run normally. The files are regular Linux files.
I upgraded my system and tried stopping AppArmor, yet no change.

I think while experimenting with security measures, I have manged to mess up my KDE install somehow.
I will figure this out, thanks guys.

Please try removing the Gwenview configuration file, located at ~/.kde4/share/config/gwenviewrc.

Right, after making changes in the gwenviewrc file one by one, it seems if I keep Remember history and URL on then all folders load immediately. But turning it off gives me the above mentioned delay. Thanks bcooksley .

Okay, that seems rather unusual. My guess would be that this is a bug within Gwenview, as I would expect the reverse to be true.
