Gwenview startup procedure

Wed Nov 18, 2015 9:19 pm
Hi

I have several external (USB) harddisks attached to my computer. They usually go into sleep mode after some time unused.

I recognized that directly after Gwenview startup, at least two of these USB hdd start rotating and wake up. I have all my pictures on one external hdd, but even if this hdd is ready, Gwenview starts another hdd up. This startup procedure does not make sense for me and it always takes a lot of time, until I can use Gwenview.

When I open a picture with Gwenview and some hdd are in sleep mode, I have to wait until they are ready before I can browse to the next picture. The Gwenview Window becomes gray until the external hdd are ready.

I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 (KDE 4.14.2, Qt 4.8.6, Gwenview: 4.14.0 pre)

Is this a known "bug" and solved in a newer version?

Regards, Reto

How sleep your hard disks?

I question this because, I use LM KDE, also I have 2 hard disk, but I need configure my system trogh gnome-schedule for down or sleep my hard disks with the command:
Code: Select all
sync && for a in /dev/sdX ; do sudo hdparm -Y "$a" ; done
(X its the hard disk).

Well, when my hard disk are sleep and I go to open a picture with gwenview, only view that, start hard disk and also, gwenview display a picture, but this, only need 0.5 seconds (more ore less).

Regards.
