Is it possible to edit Gwenview's "Save As" so that it saves jpg files with .jpg instead of .jpeg for the file extension as the automatic choice for that type of file?

It seems that the decision for *.jpeg may be coded directly into Gwenview. You could try changing file associations (removing the *.jpeg assocation, leaving just *.jpg) to see if that has any effect though.

Removing that, as well as .jpe did the trick.
It looks to be picking the first file extension alphabetically, which is logical, just not preferred
