It needs better multimedia support

Gwenview needs to display the length and seek time of videos, it also needs keyboard shortcuts to pause, rewind & fast-forward.

I see your point, but keep in mind video support in Gwenview is geared toward small clips you shoot with your camera, not full length movies.

I understand that may have been it's initial goal but it's the closest thing I have to a video collection manager besides using the Dolphin file manager which can become tedious when constantly launching my media player.

Have you looked at or tried Bangarang?

It's not just its initial goal, it is its actual goal. There is no plan for example to add support for features like subtitles or cover fetching.

An application like Smewt (http://www.smewt.com/) is probably closer to what you need.

My use of "video collection manager" was a poor choice of words since I have such an application already. I wouldn't want to see features like subtitle support in gwenview since I don't use it as a serious media player. Seek time would have helped me pinpoint the position in a video when I launch it in another application to take screenshots, instead of seeking several positions before I find the right scene.

Since upgrading to KDE4.7, I've been unable to get gwenview to display any video thumbnails.

It used to - but then stopped with 4.7 - it was GREAT.. but no more.

I've tried installing different thumbnailers etc, but no avail.

Is this a known issue that's going to get resolved - or is this a config I can resolve?

It's a known issue https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280879 which I believe has been resolved but you'll need to compile it. https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kdegraphics/gwenview/repository.

I'm using pclinuxos which is still using 4.6.5 so I haven't ran into this problem yet.

Gwenvie w from KDE 4.8 has better video support: you can seek with the left and right keys and pausenow has a shortcut "P". Seeking itself should be more responsive.

As for thumbnails it should be fixed in 4.7.4.

Woo-hoo. Indeed it is. Just upgraded to 4.7.4 and I have video thumbnails again! Fantastic.
