I've been using gwenview for a while (without KDE) and I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 and I noticed that gwenview is displaying my pictures in a mysterious order. Doesn't seem to be date. Isn't alphabetical as 313.jpg shows up before 12407.jpg. I looked to see if there was some kind of configuration settings for this...and to my surprise there seem to be pretty much no configuration options at all. That's not what I remember from when I originally set this program up. I found a Gwenview manual online but it has no detail at all. So I am kind of puzzled.

Is the mysterious ordering occurring only for file names beginning with numerics or beginning with the same alphas but ending in diff numerics? if so it could be that somewhere the "natural sorting of items" is enabled
see bottom of this page for example http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase-a ... lphin.html |

I think you've hit it. The numbers are coming up in numerical order instead of alphabetic order. Where is this configured? As I noted, I only have a grand total of 7 configuration choices (spread over 3 different categories: 3 image view, 2 general and 2 advanced) in Gwenview now. (I swear there used to be more.)

Only place I know where it can be set is in Dolphin -> settings -> configure Dolphin -> general -> Natural sorting of items
Don't know if Gwenview uses this setting or it is the default, I could not find a corresponding setting in a rc file for Gwenview or for KDE in general. |

Gwenview indeed makes use of natural sorting if enabled. This is actually a global settings: while there is no configuration option to change this from Gwenview, if you change it in Dolphin, it will also change in Gwenview.

unfortunately there seems to be a bug in 4.8 where even if disabled natural sort order is used

That is very strange, it works for me here.

Indeed it does not work in Dolphin, did not notice that. Toggling this setting from Dolphin does nevertheless affect Gwenview.
