I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with xfce as window manager. I just installed Kontact because I prefer this over the alternative systems. I managed to stumble on the answers on getting it to sync my google contacts and calendar this time around so things are looking good so far.
My current questions: 1)can I put the files onto my network storage drive to be accessible from whatever pc I'm on? (I'm actually thinking of using the guide on how to migrate to a new computer to move the existing files onto the network drive and then access from each computer directly...I'm just not sure if that would work) That way I wouldn't be duplicating the files on both my desktop and my netbook. I could also access my calendar without having to sync it all via google onto my mobile devices. 2) is there any way that anyone knows of to pull notes from nixnote or evernote in automatically or use those programs in place of popup notes? 3) I'd like to backup my PIM files using KBackup separately from my general home folder backup. What are all the files that I need to backup for the mail/calendar/contacts backup? I did basic install no special locations, etc. Thanks for any suggestions and help. Links to guides or tutorials would e much appreciated as well! |

Which version of Kontact/KMail/KOrganizer are you using?

Hmmm...I thought I put all my specs in but I'm not seeing them now.
Ubuntu11.10; 3.0.0-16-generic gnome 3.2.1 xfce 4.8 Kontact 4.7.3 sorry about that. I have the full xfce metapackage installed and full Kontact installed, but not the KDE metapackage. Hope that helps. |

For this method, you should simply be able to mount a remote file system into the file system by editing fstab. Once you have done that, you can copy your data over then add new resources into Akonadi to point to the correct locations on the remote file system. Finally, you can remove the old resources.
