Hi all

Since update to KDE 4.8.1, Kontact is very slow to load
I am talking 40 seconds when not more
I know I only ave a netbook, but still basically it takes as long as to boot the whole system.
Once loaded, switch from/to kmail from/to another komponent take again a while ( just under 10 seconds)
Using the kmail module (as well as other module) itself however is as quick as it has always been


Does anyone experience it?

Worked fine with 4.8.0 ...

This is definitely not expected, the performance should be on-par if not faster with 4.8.1 compared to 4.8.0. Can you determine if any processes in particular are using CPU/Disk during these loading times?

I will try to watch what Ksysguard or top says during the launch next time I launch it

Is there maybe an scirpt or something easy to do that sort of log what processes run and what %Cpu they take? so that I can post it here back ?

Unfortunately I'm not aware of one. Usage of KSysguard / top / htop would probably be best in this case (ideally in a always on top window).

Ok So I had to reinstall the whole system this weekend (for the second time in three weeks) since I just "mark for removal" gcc in muon ^^

But the goods things is that this problem seems to be reproductible ^^

So basically kssysguard say
Nepomukservicestub 26%
Kontact 19%
virtuoso-t 6%
dbus-daemon 6%

I suspect this nepomuk stuff to be the cause of the drama since it wakes up when launching kontact and stop few seconds after kontact finally appear

Okay, this is unusual. Given this is now a fresh installation, using KDE 4.8.1, I would suggest filing a bug report at bugs.kde.org so that the developers can investigate this regression.

There is a known but in nepomuk-4.8.1 that causes performance degradation. The fix will be in 4.8.2.

I am indeed suspecting nepomuk now rather than Kontact since I have discovered that selecting tag when making a research in Dolphin also takes years
