Hi,

I have now kmail 4.9.1 and 'search' function still doesn't work. Is there any chance that search will work in kmail or rather it will be drop in new relases?

To get search (or at least parts, like sarch on Subject) working in 4.9 I did the following:

edit
~/.kde/share/config/akonadi_nepomuk_feederrc

I would try this:
exit KMail/Kontact
from command line run "akonadictl stop"
then edit the file above to state InitialIndexingComplete=false and DisableIdleDetection=false

then "akonadictl start"
then let virtuoso and friends wreak havoc with your cpu for quite some time (depending on number of mails and contacts) and then try again.
